First steering committee meeting convened

EMLI convened the first steering committee meeting for CSO-Government dialogue project on 11th/08/2017 at National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). During the meeting, the Terms of Reference for the steering committee, Project Activity work plan for 2017, Project Inception Workshop Report and Needs Assessment tool were presented for technical guidance from the committee.

Members discussed and agreed that the steering committee shall ensure effective implementation of the project through providing technical, strategic and financial support. In addition the committee adopted the Terms of Reference, Activity work plan, discussed and took note of the Project Inception Workshop Report and the Needs Assessment tool for GEF Stakeholders.

The steering committee further noted that GEF 7 aims to focus on impact programmes. Therefore a proposal was made by one of the members that GEF 7 programming for Uganda should be an integrated project with a window for civil society.

In conclusion, members noted and recommended to continue SGP in GEF 7 programming for Uganda.

On 19 th /07/2017, Government of Uganda through Ministry of Water and Environment in conjunction with Environmental Management for Livelihood Improvement Bwaise Facility (EMLI) and support from Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the EMLI CSO-Government Dialogue project in Kampala. CSO-Government Dialogue Project 2nd Steering committee meeting

On 13/02/2017 Environmental Management for Livelihood Improvement Bwaise Facility (EMLI) in collaboration with Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) organized the 2 nd CSO-Government Dialogue project steering committee meeting at the Ministry of Water and Environment Board room. The meeting’s overall objective was to review and provide feedback in the report assessing the status of implementation of MEAs in Uganda.  Specifically to update the committee on the progress of project activities, present and review the draft handbook on MEAs ratified by Uganda, project activity work plan for 2018 and the Terms of Reference of the National Environment Platform. Dialogue on Environmental Governance in Uganda

A cross section of participants during the dialogue meeting.                                    On April 25, 2018, the Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with EMLI with financial support from NEMA and the CSO Government Dialogue project convened a breakfast Dialogue on Environmental Governance in Uganda at Mosa Court Apartments in Kampala. The event brought together 52 participants (15 Females and 37 Males) from state and Non State Actors including MDAs, CSOs and Media inter-alia. The dialogue built on the recommendations of the assessment study report on the status of implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements in Uganda commissioned by EMLI. The dialogue focused on two key presentations: 1) the status of implementation of global environmental agreements in Uganda, 2) our environment and human centeredness.
